Host a ‘Day for Change’ at your school
What is Day for Change?
The idea behind Day for Change is to do something different from other days and by raising funds make a difference in other children’s lives. Some examples would be non-uniform day, wearing something fun to school, eating only healthy for the day or maybe be nice to a teacher for a day! The options are endless. It can be a fun and educational event where pupils and staff can do something different. To register contact eleanor@unicef.ie or call 01 8783000.
Top Tips
Combine your Day for Change with a significant day for children;
- April 22nd - World Water Day
- April 25th - World Malaria Day
- May 15th - International Day of Families
- June 5th - World Environment Day
- June 20th - World Refugee Day
- July 11th - World Population Day
- August 12th - International Youth Day
- September 8th - International Literacy Day
- September 21st - International Day of Peace
- October5th - World Teacher's Day
- October 16th - World Food Day
- November 20th - Universal Children's Day
- December 1st - World AIDS Day
- December 20th - International Human Solidarity Day
In exchange for making a change for that day – for instance, wearing fancy dress, a sponsored water walk, or a cake sale – parents, children and teachers raise funds to improve education and health for children around the world.
Fundraising ideas
Non-uniform day: Whether you wear your Sunday Best or Fancy Dress, this is a fun and easy way to raise funds. Ask your teacher/ Principal for permission first & agree on an amount for each pupil & teacher, for example €2 pp.
Sponsored school walk or cycle: Organise a class walk where you each get sponsored for UNICEF. Sponsorship forms are available, and this could be great fun too.
Balloon race: Hold a balloon race in your school! Release anything from 100-1000 balloons with a prize for the balloon that travels furthest.
Carolling: If you are part of your School Choir or just fancy having a go, organise a group to raise funds and get into the Christmas Spirit!
Halloween party: Host a fancy dress party with lots of fun stuff, such as bobbing for apples & trick or treating. Any sweets received can be kept as your reward!
Sale of work in the school hall: Sell your old CD’s, jumpers, toys and games & have a few friends do the same. School halls or assemblies are ideal for this.
Sports day or tournament for UNICEF: On School Sports Day why not get sponsored for a race or challenge, or organize a 5-a-side tournament of a few teams, money raised through an entrance fee for each team.
Street collection or bag packing: Organise a local street collection or bag packing for UNICEF. You will require a permit from the Gardaí but this is a great and simple way to raise funds.
