This Christmas, children in Ukraine are suffering.

Winter in Ukraine is ferocious. As temperatures continue to plummet, for every degree they go down, children are at increasing risk from the harshest winter they will ever face. Many could die if we do not send urgent help.

It can get as cold as minus 20°C and even below, especially in the east where many children are trapped. Right now, already vulnerable and war-weary children are in terrible danger.

Families who have been forced to flee their homes are not prepared for the bitterly cold days ahead. In the temporary shelters they are living in, there is no electricity, no heating. Exposed to conditions like this, children can very quickly fall ill with serious respiratory illnesses like pneumonia – which in some cases could prove fata.

The children of Ukraine need your help now. Please donate what you can to help save a child’s life.

How your donation will help

UNICEF is on the ground right now helping children who are facing a bitter winter. With your help, we must send 50,000 winter clothing kits to keep children warm through the cold months to come.

You can help us send 100,000 thermal blankets so children can sleep comfortably at night. Children suffer much more from the cold than adults. Your gift can keep them safe.

Or you can help provide fuel to heat classrooms so children who have missed out on so much of their education can go to school.

Here’s how your donations can directly help children in Ukraine.

  • €50 can send thermal blankets to protect 8 children during freezing winter
  • €75 can provide winter clothing kits to keep children safe and warm from the cold
  • €150 can supply fuel to heat 1 classroom to keep children learning this winter

In Kyiv Oblast, Ukraine, 6-year-old Denys can’t hold back the tears as he walks through what once was his home. The light autumn coat he is wearing is the only warm item he has for winter.
