At just two years old, Hakim fled his home in Syria with his family, walking for three hours through the winter cold in search of safety. His little sister Amira was only five months old. 

When the family reached a refugee camp in northern Iraq, life was still difficult. Their mother, Fatema, worried about keeping her children warm and safe, especially during storms when their fragile tent offered little protection. 

Thanks to UNICEF’s support, the family received warm blankets and clean water, bringing much-needed comfort during a frightening and uncertain time.
