A Child Rights Approach to an Inclusive Classroom

This 20-hour Online course is for primary school teachers and principals. It is approved by the Department of Education and entitles participants to 3 EPV days. The cost to participate is €35.

  • Course 1 will run from Wednesday 1st – Friday 10th July
  • Course 2 will run from Monday 13th to Friday 24th July

You can complete the 20-hour course at your own pace over the course block. You must spend at least 12.5 hours online engaging with the course content and at least 7.5 hours offline engaging with recommended reading and assignments. There are no synchronous (live teaching) sessions.

Supported by an e-tutor, the participants will explore children’s rights and develop strategies to embed rights-respecting practices in their classrooms and schools environments.

Through discussion forums and assignments participants will deepen their understanding of rights-based approaches, strengthening their ability to support all children in their classroom and school community.

Participants will be guided through a rich learning journey encompassing five modules:

  1. The United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child
  2. Child Participation
  3. Rights Respecting Classroom
  4. A Welcome Classroom
  5. Whole School Approach to Child Rights
