Saving children from hunger in Gaza

“My pregnancy was dire because of a lack of food,” says Eman, who lives in Gaza.

She had tried for 10 years to have children, and was overjoyed when she finally became pregnant with triplets.

But her joy became fear when conflict began. Forced from her home, Eman gave birth to babies Tia, Yasser and Mohammad, as bombs fell all around her.

Thank goodness for kind people like you, because Eman now has a supply of therapeutic milk from the UNICEF supported clinic she attends regularly to check on the babies’ health.

Thanks to the compassion of our supporters, mothers like Eman around the world can protect their children from hunger.

Transforming children’s lives with safe water in Sudan

“The water facility has changed our lives – the water is clean and I feel very happy,” Nashwa said.

The 14-year-old from Sudan used to face a gruelling daily task of fetching water.

She would trek three hours in the hot sun to find water for her family.

But thanks to incredible support from people like you, solar-powered water systems were built close to Nashwa’s home.

Now her journey takes just 5 mins, allowing her more time to study and have fun, like all children deserve.

When you give, you do something incredible. You don’t just save children’s lives—you help make them safer, happier, and filled with hope.

A voice from the field

Dara Johnston (right) is a UNICEF water and sanitation expert from Wicklow.

He is working in Gaza, where over 75% of water and sanitation facilities have been damaged or destroyed.

“The donors of UNICEF Ireland have been very generous in their support for Gaza,” he said. “When we talk with parents in Gaza about providing support, they always prioritise safe water and sanitation.

“In December alone, UNICEF and partners provided water to 1.8 million people – including over 700,000 children – across the Gaza Strip.

“Your support has saved lives and prevented potentially catastrophic disease outbreaks.”
