What we do

UNICEF works to uphold the rights of every child, everywhere.

Building a better future

For 79 years, in over 190 countries, UNICEF has been there for children – wherever and whenever they need us. In war zones, disaster areas, and the world’s toughest places, we act fast to save lives. But we don’t stop when the crisis fades.

Children deserve more than short-term aid. They need stability, education, healthcare, and protection. That’s why UNICEF stays for the long-term, rebuilding schools, providing vaccinations and water infrastructure, and helping families recover. With expert staff and one of the largest humanitarian aid supply networks in the world, we make sure support reaches children consistently, not just in emergencies.

Thanks to our monthly donors, who provide reliable and consistent support, we can plan ahead, respond immediately, and create lasting change. Trust in UNICEF means trust in a future where no child is left behind. We get things done – and we won’t stop until every child is safe and healthy.

UNICEF ensures every child is…

Protected

UNICEF is a global leader in child protection – responding in emergencies and working beyond crises to keep children safe. We partner with governments, international organizations, and, most importantly, communities to create lasting change.

Whether reuniting children separated from their parents in Gaza or rescuing those forced into armed groups in Haiti, we work every day to ensure every child is free from violence and exploitation. In just one year, we helped protect 11 million adolescent girls from child marriage and provided essential support to 4.5 million children who experienced violence. At UNICEF, we won’t stop until every child is safe.

Healthy

In just one year, UNICEF provided life-saving treatment to 9.3 million children suffering from severe wasting. But our impact doesn’t stop there.

We ensure millions of families have access to safe water and vaccinations, while our expert teams support pregnant women in refugee camps and mothers in poverty-stricken areas – supporting mothers through their pregnancy and ensuring their babies have a healthy start in life.

Beyond emergencies, we work hand in hand with communities and governments to build strong, resilient health systems – so children can thrive not just today, but every day, both now and into the future.

Educated

Every year, UNICEF helps over 37 million children access education – no matter where they are or the challenges they face. From delivering solar-powered tablets to children in Sudan, to setting up classrooms in underground bomb shelters in Ukraine, we make learning possible even in the toughest conditions.

In places where education is restricted, our expertise ensures children can keep learning. And in many emergencies, we are the largest provider of educational support, stepping in when no one else can.

Because every child, no matter who they are or where they live, has the right to learn and deserves an education.

UNICEF works to protect the rights of every child, everywhere – in emergencies and after the headlines have moved on.

Why UNICEF?

Every day UNICEF delivers life-changing impacts for children. We reach millions – including those in the hardest-to-reach places – with lifesaving aid, education, and protection.

We stretch every Euro for maximum impact, working efficiently with global partners. In just one year we distributed 75-80% of ready-to-use therapeutic food – a life-saving sachet of food that saves millions of children’s lives each year.

UNICEF works on the toughest problems, delivering 6.2 million doses of the world’s first malaria vaccine. As the largest global buyer of vaccines, we delivered 2.79 billion doses and reach 45% of the world’s young children.

No other organisation vaccinates, educates, and protects more children or has done more to influence laws that safeguard them. We are trusted across the world to work for every child, in every circumstance – before, during and after emergencies.

Our work

Education for every child

At UNICEF, we believe children and young people are our best hope for creating a better and more peaceful world. That’s why we aim to provide every child, everywhere, every day, the quality learning opportunities that gives them the knowledge and skills they need to thrive.

Life-saving food

UNICEF works tirelessly to fight malnutrition and ensure every child gets the nutrition they need to grow strong and healthy. From promoting breastfeeding to providing life-saving food and support in crises, UNICEF is dedicated to feeding children and giving them a brighter, healthier future.

Safe water and sanitation

UNICEF provides safe water to millions of children and families around the world, ensuring they have access to clean, life-saving water every day. From building wells in remote villages to delivering water in emergencies, UNICEF works to keep every child healthy and safe, no matter who they are or where they live.

Protecting children

Children experience violence in every country and in the places they should be most protected – their homes, schools and communities. That’s why UNICEF works alongside communities, to protect children everywhere through both essential interventions and working to eliminate harmful practices, such as child marriage and female genital mutilation.
