How your Legacy gift makes a difference

Over 75 years on from the founding of UNICEF its legacy to the world continues as we work tirelessly to protect children in over 190 countries and territories.u00a0 Your legacy gift will be a special gift for tomorrowu2019s vulnerable children.nnThe key areas of support and intervention we provide to children in some of the most remote and toughest places are around include education, vaccine and health and nutrition.nnHere’s how your legacy gift could make a life-changing difference to some of the world’s most vulnerable children.

Education

An educated child has a better chance of growing up healthy and free from poverty. What’s more, an educated child can support and help lift an entire community in need.

Education can rebuild communities destroyed by war. It can help end child marriage and it can give generations of children the brighter future they deserve.

UNICEF works to restore schools and education during and after conflict, providing the stability, structure and routine that children need to cope with the loss, fear, stress and violence.

Child Protection

We work with families and children impacted by conflicts, wars and natural disasters to set up support services to help them.

We work with governments to strengthen national child protection systems and we work directly with communities to help educate them on practices and attitudes to violence that are harmful to children.

For example, in Niger we work with local authorities and neighbourhood leaders to help children who have ended up in armed groups like Boko Haram reintegrate back into their communities. A gift in your will could help these children restart their lives.

Vaccinations

Immunization is one of the most cost-effective public health interventions to date, saving an estimated 2 to 3 million lives each year.

As a direct result of routine vaccination, we are closer than ever to eradicating deadly viruses like polio. Deaths from measles – a highly contagious disease – have declined by 73 per cent worldwide between 2000 and 2018, saving an estimated 23.2 million children’s lives.

The emergence of COVID-19, however, threatens to reverse this progress. By leaving a gift in your will to UNICEF, you can continue to ensure children receive life-saving vaccines.

Provide Safety in a Crisis

UNICEF has a long history of providing crucial aid in crisis situations, but today we are more in need than ever 1 in 4 children live somewhere affected by conflict or natural disaster.

We remain dedicated to providing life-saving assistance to all of these children. We offer them protection, no matter how difficult or remote the situation.

A gift in your will helps us be there for children no matter what. It can make sure we always have the resources needed to protect and aid children.

Life-Saving Food

Every 12 seconds, a child somewhere in the world dies of causes related to malnutrition. Children who are well nourished are better able to grow and learn. They are able to participate in and contribute to their communities as well as better able to be resilient in the face of disease, disasters, and other global crises.

UNICEF supplies approximately 80% of the world’s supply of Ready-to-Use Therapeutic Food (RUTF), a peanut based therapeutic food used to treat children aged under 5 suffering from severe acute malnutrition.
