Cold shouldn’t kill children — your support can save lives

Hundreds of thousands of children in Gaza, Ukraine, Afghanistan and Lebanon are at deadly risk this winter.

Bitter cold, raging respiratory infections and life-threatening hunger are tightening their grip on families who are struggling to survive.

Last winter, babies died of hypothermia in Gaza, while in Ukraine children shivered in unheated buildings, hiding from the explosions of missiles roaring overhead.

This winter, you can help save children from this awful fate.

You can provide warm blankets and life-saving food to children in Gaza living in cold, wet tents – hungry and scared and living with the constant threat of famine.

And in Ukraine, where endless war has destroyed heating infrastructure, you can help UNICEF provide fuel, warm clothes and other essentials.

With your support, UNICEF can rush life-saving winter supplies and clean water to protect children around the world from the cold – and protect their dignity, safety and future.

Please donate now. Your generosity can help keep a child warm, healthy and alive this winter – there is no time to lose.

Supporters like you are helping save children

In Ukraine, children are struggling through a fourth winter amid full-scale war.

In Gaza, families threatened by famine lack proper shelter, sanitation and protection against winter.

And in Afghanistan, the extremely harsh winter, with temperatures dropping as low as -33°C, are worsening malnutrition.

But UNICEF is providing hope – all thanks to people like you.

Our supporters have helped us provide 5,000 family tents, 692,000 blankets, and 206,000 sets of winter clothes to Gaza.

In Ukraine, UNICEF is providing winter cash assistance to 272,000 people so they can buy essentials like fuel.

And in Afghanistan, UNICEF is providing winter kits containing warm clothing for children and adults and winter blankets for the entire family.

But thousands of more children are still cold, hungry and at risk from unsafe water. With your help, we can reach them now.

“I got soaked by the rainwater – I am very cold.”

The vast majority of families across Gaza have lost everything – their homes, belongings and loved ones. Now forced to live in tents or damaged buildings, they are exposed to heavy rains and a bitter cold.

In these dire conditions, children remain at risk from the double threat of malnutrition and cold-related illnesses.

Children like one-year-old Sidra, who had to flee her home in just 10 minutes during the war to escape the bombs. She now lives in a cold, flimsy tent, at risk every day from hunger and hypothermia.

Her mum Maysaa says: “At night, with the strong winds and the beginning of the rain, the tent collapsed on me and my children. Water poured inside. My daughter Sidra has only two pieces of clothing. Both are soaked so now she’s wearing shorts in this cold.”

Sidra’s big brother Ismail added: “I got soaked by the rainwater – I am very cold.”

Thousands of children like Sidra and Ismail urgently need your help. Please, donate today, and help UNICEF reach children threatened by a deadly winter.
