Families left homeless by the earthquake are being provided with UNICEF hygiene kits.
Myanmar earthquake emergency appeal
On the 28th March, as children were sleeping in their beds in Myanmar, their homes collapsed around them. Over 3,000 people have died and those who managed to escape with their lives – including children pulled from the rubble – have been left injured, hungry and thirsty.
Essential infrastructure like water and sanitation have been destroyed. Health centres and hospitals are overwhelmed with casualties. People whose homes have been reduced to rubble are now living in tents and makeshift shelters.
It is right now that children are at their most vulnerable, with many separated from their parents, unsure if they are still alive.
UNICEF is on the ground providing medical supplies, emergency food and clean water. But we urgently need your help.

Another brutal blow to children
The devastating earthquake destroyed thousands of homes, with many people still trapped under debris. In minutes, children lost loved ones, homes, and access to essential services. The needs are massive and rising by the hour – the window for a life-saving response is closing.
This disaster comes on top of an already worsening crisis for children in Myanmar. Escalating conflict has seen over over 3.2 million people internally displaced since the military takeover in 2021 – 40% of whom are children. And of the 18.6 million people living in Myanmar, one-third of the population are already in need of humanitarian assistance.
The earthquake has devastated entire communities and left people without food, clean water, or shelter. The health service, already strained by the exodus of health workers and regional conflict, is now overwhelmed. Hospitals are struggling to cope, putting countless children at risk.
Families are taking shelter wherever they can after the earthquake destroyed homes. UNICEF is on the ground now reaching children with life-saving supplies.
You can help save children in Myanmar today
UNICEF has a long history in Myanmar, and has been working there since 1950 across many areas including education, nutrition, water and sanitation as well as a Mine Action programme due to the large numbers of unexploded ordnance and drone attacks across the country.
With our decades of experience across multiple sectors and our long-term presence in Myanmar, we are working alongside our partners in responding at speed and scale to deliver medical supplies, emergency food and clean water to those who need it most.
But we cannot do this alone. Please send a life-saving gift today to children who have lost everything.
