The CNF goes beyond emergency aid. It is a sustainable, innovative financing model that addresses both immediate needs and systemic challenges. Funds are directed toward both immediate life-saving interventions and longer-term solutions, including strengthening health systems, training frontline workers, and expanding local production of nutrition supplies. In this way, the CNF creates a pathway from crisis response to resilience.
Every investment in the CNF drives progress toward the global goal of Zero Hunger (SDG 2). It means fewer children left untreated, fewer families facing the heartbreak of preventable loss and stronger communities able to withstand future shocks.
The Child Nutrition Fund in Action
The Child Nutrition Fund is a UNICEF-led financing mechanism designed to accelerate the implementation of evidence-based, high-impact actions to tackle key nutrition challenges, including wasting, stunting and anaemia in children and women.
The CNF mobilises financing to sustainably scale up policies, programmes, practices, and supplies. It empowers countries to accelerate progress in achieving their national commitments to nutrition and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) through three distinct ‘windows’ of support.

The global nutrition crisis is accelerating. Rapid fluctuations in food and supply costs, alongside conflict, climate shocks, and economic instability, continue to stretch fragile health systems. For a child suffering from severe acute malnutrition, a delay in treatment is not a setback: it is often a matter of life or death.
Yet solutions exist. They are within our grasp. UNICEF is scaling up efforts to ensure that therapeutic food reaches every child who needs it. The cornerstone of this effort is Ready-to-Use Therapeutic Food (RUTF)—a high-calorie, nutrient-rich peanut paste often described as a “miracle food.” Small in size but enormous in impact, RUTF requires no refrigeration, can be eaten straight from the packet and has a shelf life of two years. It allows children to recover in their homes and communities rather than in distant health facilities, restoring health quickly and effectively.
UNICEF procures and distributes 80% of the world’s supply of RUTF. It is one of the simplest, most effective tools we have to fight child malnutrition, and yet supply cannot keep up with demand.
